Legal Intern

MITIMCo manages MIT’s financial assets, including its endowment and pension pools. Our goal is to generate exceptional long-term investment returns for MIT to support the Institute’s educational and research mission. We currently manage over $25 billion in assets. We invest globally through external fund managers and direct investments across a variety of strategies including long-only public equities, hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, and real estate. The Global Investment Legal Team at MITIMCo (“GIS Legal”) enables MIT’s mission through our review and negotiation of the legal structuring and documentation for our investments.

The GIS Legal Team at MITIMCo is seeking a paid legal intern to support the team’s work (the intern will be paid $40/hour). The intern will have similar responsibilities as a paralegal/summer associate in a law firm’s private investment funds practice.  Tasks will include completing subscription agreements for our investments in private funds, responding to “know your customer/anti-money laundering” requests, processing NDAs, reviewing MFN election forms and various other projects.  Interns will have the opportunity to shadow investment attorneys, including reviewing fund agreements, sitting in on negotiations with fund counsel and attending MIT investment committee meetings.

The current GIS Legal Intern will train the new GIS Legal intern during the latter’s 1L Spring (~2 hours per week). Upon completion of this training, the new GIS Legal intern will complete a full-time, in-office, 10-week summer internship during their 1L Summer (2026).  Following Summer 2026, the intern will work during the 2L and 3L academic years in a part-time capacity (8 hours per week minimum). However, the schedule can be flexible depending on the candidate’s needs.

The ideal candidate is a 1L student with a strong interest in investment management and/or institutional investing. Corporate paralegal, investment management office and research experience are preferred, with fund experience being a plus. Requirements include:

  • Comfort working both on a team and independently;
