How is MITIMCo connected to MIT?

MITIMCo is a department of MIT and is governed by the MIT Corporation. As a result, we are required to conduct our work in accordance with MIT policies. Our function as a department is to invest MIT’s endowment and pension pools with the goal of generating returns that support MIT’s budget and further the Institute’s educational and research goals. MITIMCo is overseen by the MIT Corporation’s Executive Committee, which appoints our governing board comprised of members of the Corporation and others with significant investment experience.

Can I apply for multiple roles within MIT simultaneously?

Yes. MIT and its departments, labs, and centers (which include MITIMCo) maintain separate candidate pipelines and interview processes for each open role. Applying for one role within the MIT network does not affect your candidacy for others, including roles at the same department, lab, or center.

Does MITIMCo provide visa sponsorship?

No. As outlined by MIT policy, MIT sponsors visas only for certain academic and research positions. MITIMCo employees are considered “administrative and support staff,” a classification that requires employees to hold indefinite work authorization without sponsorship at the time of hire and throughout the duration of employment. Unfortunately, MITIMCo has no flexibility on this point. For complete information on MIT’s visa sponsorship policies, see the appropriate MIT Policies webpage.

Does MITIMCo require a background check for new employees?

Yes. MITIMCo, in accordance with MIT policy, conducts criminal record background checks for new hires with paid appointments. For more information, including what is and is not included in background checks for new hires at MITIMCo, visit MIT’s Background Check Office website.

Who do I reach out to for an informational call?

We are grateful for your interest in MITIMCo. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of requests, we are unable to prioritize informational calls. However, we encourage you to apply via our Careers page for roles aligned with your interest and skills. We will reach out directly in the case of any next steps once your application has been reviewed.

What does the interview process typically look like?

The interview process for each role varies due to the wide scope of industries and skills represented within MITIMCo. Typically, candidates can expect a minimum of three interview rounds. These rounds generally include an initial phone screen followed by interviews with the role’s hiring manager and immediate collaborators. Candidates successful in initial rounds can expect to meet with MITIMCo’s President, who interviews all candidates before any potential offers are extended.

Does MITIMCo offer summer internships? If so, how do I apply?

Various MITIMCo teams across Operations, Cambridge Real Estate, and the Global Investment Staff offer summer internships within their disciplines. While available internships vary from year to year, all open opportunities will be posted with job descriptions and application requirements/instructions on our website’s Careers page no later than January of the target internship year.

I applied online but haven’t heard back. What is a good next step?

Due to the high volume of applications received, we are unable to connect individually with each applicant. However, should there be mutual interest in further exploring your experience following review of your application materials, we will reach out directly via the email provided.

I need to request accommodation for the application and/or interview process. Who should I reach out to?

If you are a job seeker and require accommodation for the interview process, please contact Melissa Slade, Senior Human Resources Associate, at mslade@mitimco.mit.edu.
